Azneft Becomes General Contractor in Gas Project Absheron

Baku/20.10.17/ Turan: PA Azneft (SOCAR's production association) has become the general contractor of the French company Total in the project of development of the Absheron offshore gas field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

This was stated yesterday by the Director General Dashgyn Isgandarov at the event dedicated to the results of the third quarter.

"Participation in this project gives the association a good chance to learn international experience. This also means that we have staff meeting international standards, "said the head of the association.

At the same time, he did not specify what works Azneft will perform as a general contractor.

However, it is known that according to the Phase-1 project of development of the Absheron field, for the first time in the history of PSA contracts, the technological part of the project will be implemented outside the contract area. That is, gas and condensate production will be produced with the help of an underwater manifold, and the primary processing of raw materials and then their transfer to the Azerbaijani side will take place in the Neft Dashlary (Oil Rocks) field, which is being developed by PA Azneft.

Most likely, PA Azneft will provide comprehensive services to Total.

It should be noted that the beginning of drilling of the first production well in the framework of the Absheron project is scheduled for December 2017 or January 2018. The drilling work will be conducted, using a new floating semisubmersible drilling rig named after Heydar Aliyev. The expected daily production rate of the well will be 2,000 tons of condensate and 4 mcm of gas.

The first gas from this well is planned to be received in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The Absheron field, which is located 100 km south-east of Baku (30 km from the Neft Dashlary deposit), was discovered in August 2010. In September 2011, the operator of the project, Total, on the basis of data of processing the first exploration well confirmed the availability of reserves in the amount of 350 bcm of gas and 45 million tons of condensate.

EBRD Board OKs Funding Worth $500M for TANAP

Baku/20.10.17/Turan: The EBRD Board of Directors has approved a $500 mln regional project that will help finance the delivery of crucial energy supplies from the Caspian Sea through to Europe along the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and make an important contribution to energy security and diversification.

The EBRD financing will fund the completion of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) that passes through Turkey, reads a message of the Bank.

TANAP is a key part of the SGC which will strengthen Europe"s energy security, promote interconnectivity and open gas markets. It will also help provide a better energy supply mix for consumers in the Balkans and south-eastern Europe as well as achieve significant CO2 reductions through the substitution of obsolete coal-fired power plants.

The Bank"s engagement in the project will ensure adherence to the highest environmental standards and allow continuing extensive dialogue with all stakeholders of SGC.

The Southern Gas Corridor includes gas infrastructure investments into a 3,187-kilometre pipeline running through six countries with a total cost of $41.5 billion.

The key components are the Shah Deniz offshore gas field in Azerbaijan, the Southern Caucasus Pipeline in Azerbaijan and Georgia, TANAP in Turkey and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) through Greece, Albania and Italy. The initial annual throughput capacity will be up to 16 bcm, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 10 million households in the region. -12D-

Transition of Personal Transport to Gas Begins in Azerbaijan

Baku/20.10.17/ Turan: SOCAR Petroleum (SOCAR subsidiary) will start selling Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at all filling stations under the SOCAR brand in Azerbaijan from the second quarter of 2018, the company said. According to the report, apart from the retail sale of CNG, SOCAR gas stations will provide services for installing special equipment for car operation on CNG.

"The installation of quality and safe Italian CNG equipment in the specially created service centers is planned for cars. The registration for the provision of these services has already started on the official website of the company (www.socar-petroleum.az) and on its page in the social network Facebook," the message says.

At present, CNG in Azerbaijan is used by Iveco passenger buses owned by BakuBus LLC since 2015.

Turan News Agency asked interested sources why SOCAR suddenly decided to sell compressed gas from next year in all its gas stations. At the same time, a new service was introduced at the service points of SOCAR Petroleum to install factory equipment for cars, which now run on gasoline and diesel.

The interlocutor of the news agency said this is due to the fact that the prices for diesel fuel in the country will be increased soon. And the increase will be substantial. Currently in the country diesel fuel is mainly used by public and commercial transport, as well as agricultural machinery. Not to let increase in the price of fuel significantly affect the life of citizens, it was decided to gradually prepare the transition to a more efficient type of fuel. For example, calculations by SOCAR specialists show that the use of CNG will allow the car owner to save 600 manat on fuel consumption for every 10,000 km. A public transport vehicle has practically the same load for a month.

SOCAR is the only producer of petroleum products in the country. At present 25 filling stations operate in Azerbaijan under the SOCAR brand, and more than 400 filling stations of SOCAR operate in Switzerland, Georgia, Romania and Ukraine. --12D

World"s First Floating Wind Power Plant Launched in Scotland

Baku/20.10.17/ Turan: The world's first floating wind power plant Hywind Scotland began deliveries of electricity to the energy system of Scotland.

The operators of the project are the Norwegian Statoil and the energy company Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar).

The floating 30 MW wind power plant is located in the North Sea 25 kilometers from the city of Peterhead, according to a press release from Statoil. It will be able to provide electricity to about 20 thousand households.

Hywind Scotland consists of 5 wind generators, each weighing 12 thousand tons. The height of the windmill is 253 meters, of which 78 meters are under water.

The angle of installation of the blades of the propellers of the wind generator can vary. It is defined by special control software, which calculates the desired angle, depending on the strength of the wind and pitching.

Statoil and Masdar intend to create the Batwind power storage facility on the basis of a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1 MW / h. It will allow accumulating electricity and serving as a buffer during the peaks of energy consumption.
