Baku / 03.07.17 / Turan: The price of a consumer basket of 30 main types of basic food products compiled by Turan Information Agency decreased by 0.2% on average in Baku in June.
The price went up for cheese (+ 9%), beef (+ 4.7%), mutton (+ 4.5%), and chicken (+ 4.2%).
The prices fell for cabbages (-112.5%), tomatoes (-40%), cucumbers (-37.5%), potatoes (-36.8%), apples (-29.2%), chicken (6%), granulated sugar (-7.6%), and salt (-6.6%).
In May, on average, prices fell by 3.9% after a stable situation in April.
The reduction in prices of vegetable products is associated with the seasonal nature, which is characterized by access of cheaper local agricultural products to the shelves and changes in the diet in favor of plant foods. There is also a factor of low purchasing power of the population and a decline in the standard of living as a result of the crisis.
Experts associate increase in the prices for meat with reduction of the areas of pastures, which have been used under cotton fields this year. There is a tendency of decrease in the number of livestock due to the lack of food.
The prices for vegetables will most probably remain low in July.
