Baku / 06.06.17 / Turan: In May in Baku, the average price of a consumer basket of 30 main types of basic food products produced by the Turan News Agency decreased by 3.9%.
Seasonal products fell in price first of all: cucumbers (-73.3%), tomatoes (-62.5%) and cabbages (-52.9%). Prices for several other foods fell as follows: eggs (-33%), chicken (-18.6%), cheese (-8.3%), corn oil (-7.3%), first-grade flour (-5.6%), beef (-4.5%), and chicken giblets (-3%).
Several products rose: apples (+ 105%), onions (+ 33.3%), and potatoes (+ 5.5%).
In April, the average price for 30 types of products remained stable after the 1% decline in March.
Price growth was observed in July (+ 1.4%) last year and ended in February (1.7%). The highest growth was registered in December (4%).
The decline in prices, as mentioned in the report for March, means that Azerbaijan enters the season of summer fruits and vegetables entering the market, which is characterized by a decrease in prices with access to cheaper local agricultural products and changes in the diet in favor of plant foods. There is also a factor of low purchasing power of the population and a decline in the standard of living as a result of the crisis.
It should be expected that food prices will continue to decline in June. -0-
